Drainage Engineer

Job Introduction

💧 Drainage Engineer
(Smart design. Clear strategy. Water exactly where it should be.)

Drainage design isn’t just calculations and drawings.
It’s about technical judgement, practical solutions, and creating systems that work first time — on paper and on site.

At Lucion, our engineers help developments move forward with confidence by designing drainage solutions that are compliant, sustainable, and built on solid technical thinking. From early concepts to detailed design, your work helps clients make informed decisions and deliver projects that perform exactly as intended.

We’re now looking for a Drainage Engineer to join our team in Manchester or London. This role is suited to someone who values technical quality, enjoys solving site challenges, and takes pride in getting details right.

🔎 What You’ll Be Doing (And Why It Matters)

This is a hands-on design role where accuracy, clarity, and sound engineering judgement are essential.

You’ll:
 • Develop drainage strategies from concept through to planning and detailed design

 • Produce clear, accurate technical drawings, layouts, and specifications
 • Contribute to flood risk and drainage assessments across a range of sectors
 • Collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams
 • Build strong client relationships through clear, practical advice
 • Support and mentor junior colleagues
 • Contribute ideas to improve technical delivery and services

In short: dependable engineering work that supports safe, compliant, and sustainable development.

 • Bring around 3+ years’ drainage design experience (surface and foul systems)
 • Be confident designing SuDS solutions
 • Understand relevant planning policy, design standards, and approval processes
• Be proficient in AutoCAD
 •
Have knowledge of pumping stations and flood risk principles
 • Communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
 • Work well independently while contributing to a collaborative team

Useful extras (not essential):
•
Project management experience
 • Experience liaising with statutory consultees
 • GIS knowledge (e.g. QGIS)
 • Professional membership or working toward Chartership
 • Familiarity with S104, S106 and S278 processes

You’re organised, technically capable, and trusted to approach challenges calmly and methodically.
