Job Introduction
🌊 Associate – Flood Risk & Drainage
Water finds a way. We help manage it.
Flood risk. Drainage strategy. Smart thinking that actually works in the real world.
If that sounds like your comfort zone — and you enjoy helping others level up too — this could be your next move.
Due to the hybrid nature of the role and our regional offices, we’re open to candidates anywhere in the UK.
We’re looking for an Associate Consultant to join our Flood Risk & Drainage team. Someone technically sharp, commercially aware, and quietly confident — the kind of person who leads projects without needing a spotlight.
You’ll work across planning and transactional due diligence projects for both public and private sector clients, shaping practical solutions that stand up to scrutiny (and to the weather).
🌧 What You’ll Be Doing
From first sketch to final sign-off, you’ll keep projects flowing smoothly:
Owning projects from inception to completion, including fee proposals and tenders
Producing and overseeing Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, and Flood Scoping Reports
Supporting conceptual drainage design (including SuDS) and reviewing layouts
Carrying out detailed technical reviews — because details matter
Delivering Flood Risk Appraisals for investor and pension fund clients
Offering commercially sound, practical advice across all flood sources
Contributing to service development, including emerging areas like nutrient neutrality and ESG
Building strong client relationships and collaborating across the wider Lucion Group
Mentoring and line managing colleagues — helping them grow without micromanagement
💡 This Role Will Suit You If…
You don’t just complete projects — you improve how they’re done.
You have a growth mindset and enjoy solving complex problems
You’re organised, adaptable, and calm under deadlines
You take ownership and pick up new skills quickly
You’re commercially aware and positive about client engagement
You value CPD and continuous learning
You communicate clearly and enjoy working with people
📚 Your Background
You’re already operating at a senior level and ready to step into an Associate role:
Degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Geography) or equivalent experience
7+ years in flood risk and drainage consultancy
Strong understanding of design standards, planning policy, and regulatory processes
Proven project management experience and liaison with clients/statutory consultees
Commercial awareness
Experience with MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage (preferable)
AutoCAD experience (preferable)
QGIS or other GIS software experience
Chartered status (or working towards it) desirable
