Associate Planner - Environmental Planning

Job Introduction

We have a fantastic opportunity for an excellent and passionate candidate to join our Environmental Planning Service team as an Associate Planner and team leader to support and advise our clients on their sustainable development projects.

A range of offices across the UK would be considered for the right candidate but our Manchester office is preferable.

Role Responsibility

The main purpose of the role is to provide excellent planning advice to our environmental teams in the wider business and grow and develop the Environmental Planning Service into a dual functioning consultancy service which supports our client base and enables our drive to ambitious and sustainable growth.

Your intuition and drive will enable variation beyond our initial conceptual requirements. However, it is expected that the following will form core responsibilities:

  • Supporting the day to day running of the Environmental Planning team including budgeting, pastoral care of the team, reporting to Senior Leadership and ensuring the team are supported;
  • Providing expert advice to our clients and co-professionals regarding how our services fit within the planning  framework and identifying risks and strengths of projects at the earliest stages;
  • Providing well founded expert planning advice to technical teams (such as Noise, Air Quality, Ground, Flood and Ecology)
  • Assisting colleagues at all levels with Project Management, including producing programmes, budgets and trackers;
  • Producing/ reviewing and/or authorising a variety of feasibility appraisals, environmental reports for planning;
  • Project leading all stages of the planning application process including large and EIA developments; and
  • Representing the Company at networking events, panel discussions and at Client facing meetings and events.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI);
  • Has a demonstrable experience in a planning related practice (with some time spent in a consultancy practice or client side role);
  • A passionate interest in the environment and/or sustainable development projects;
  • An excellent understanding of the UK Planning system which is constantly refreshed through training, CPD and interest;
  • An excellent working knowledge of the UK EIA regulations and guidance;
  • Experience of a range of development types and sizes;
  • The ability to clearly simplify technical data, conclusions and recommendations and disseminate this to Clients, colleagues and members of the public;
  • Strong communication, organisational and time management skills;
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, with experience using a number of different software products including GIS, Microsoft Word/ Excel and outlook systems;
  • Reliable, pragmatic and able to work as part of a team and under own initiative;
  • The drive to want to grow your career whilst also sharing your knowledge and experiences internally and externally; and
  • Ability to grow and create excellent client relationships.
